A peaceful corner

A peaceful corner

“We rented with friends, totalling 4 adults and 4 kids aged 12 to 18. The house is spacious, very comfortable, and well-furnished. Outdoor areas (dining area, pool, garden) are very pleasant. The house is sufficiently secluded while close to several villages offering various amenities. Nîmes and its Roman past is very close and it is easy to spend a day or a half-day on unspoiled Mediterranean beaches. For wine amateurs, there are a number of wineries in the area. It is also easy to rent bikes and enjoy the dedicated path or the nearby hills. We had a fantastic stay and thoroughly enjoyed it.”

“When you pull into the crunchy-gravel driveway, you can tell that Mas de Mahystre is everything you want from a big old house in the South of France. We rented the house with two other families and it more than accommodated three couples and our children. There is plenty of living space downstairs and the large kitchen is well equipped. We were there in April, so the pool was cold – but most of us went in anyway. And when the sun did shine we loved lying on sunloungers gazing at the back of the house and listening to birdsong. That was when we could hear it through the delighted shrieks from our kids as they played in the garden tree house looking out over the fields behind the house. I would like to go back to really make the most of the outdoor table under the wisteria canopy, with its picture window over the fields to the hills beyond. The nearest town, Calvisson, is lovely – especially on Sunday for market day. We walked in the hills, we cycled along the Voie Verte (a former railway line that is now a cycle track) and we enjoyed days out in Nîmes, Montpellier, Uzés and La Grande Motte.”

“Our third wonderful holiday here. The last two weeks have been amazing again. Such a great place and fabulous to be back. This place is bliss.”

The O Family August, 2018

“We’ve just spent a fabulously sunny two weeks at St Come in the delightful Mas de Mahystre. We went with another family and the house easily absorbed both families very comfortably. The kids were blissfully happy swimming in the pool in the garden, or playing in the treehouse and picking blackberries or plums from the trees. When we fancied a change of scene, there were lots of options, from local Sunday markets to evening markets nearby. We did a couple of day trips to La Grande Motte beach for some sand and sea, which was an easy half hour drive away. Another day, we drove to the impressive Pont du Gard to marvel at the Roman architecture, whilst swimming in the refreshingly cool water of the river. Evenings were spent on the terrace or playing boules, whilst listening to the noise of the cicadas. Thank you Claire and your family for lending us your beautiful home.”

“The house was utterly charming nestled just outside the village of Mareujols St Come in the French countryside. The traditional farm house was perfect for the kids to explore & play in. The pool provided a welcome respite from the heat, along with the covered verandah. The nightly boule competitions provided much competitive cheating & a chance to relax with a glass or two of the local rose once the kids were in bed! We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and a wonderful time was had by all.”

“Set in unspoilt countryside on the edge of a village, within walking distance of a boulangerie, five minutes drive to a superb Sunday market and ten minutes from a excellent supermarket, this beautiful house with a super swimming pool suited our three generation family ideally. Claire and our neighbours couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. We hope to come back!”

“We have just spent a delightful week in Mas de Mahystre which was perfect for our 2 families with teenagers. We found the house to be charming and spent many hours by the pool and had all our meals in the shaded outdoor eating area. Architectural features of the tiled floor and staircase were a real joy. Claire gave us a wonderful start beforehand by answering any number of questions and even booking dinner on our first night in her favourite local restaurant.”

“We spent the most glorious week here with our family, to celebrate our parents 50th Wedding anniversary and a birthday – so hard to leave this little piece of paradise – a real hideaway indeed – such a great week in the sunshine and a gorgeous house – great family home, filled with everything you need – books, pool toys, amazing tree house which our kids adored – fabulous pool and sun beds for lots of sunbathing and relaxing – this house was everything it was described to be and more and such lovely owners – great communication and helpful with local information etc. Really recommend this house for a relaxing, happy family holiday, just wish we had booked 2 weeks!”

“Our two young sons (who both love to swim) enjoyed a week’s stay at Mahystre located near St. Come. Clean and well maintained, the kitchen had a full sized refrigerator and plenty of storage for food! A great kitchen for those who enjoy cooking! The pool was clean and the lounge chairs were cozy – also the option of getting shade from the umbrellas – thanks for having those as well. The owners provided some blow up pool floaties and we relaxed in the hammock, ate all meals on the outside (shaded) terrace. St. Come was a short walk from the house but a quick bike or drive away (2Km) was Calvisson, which offered wonderful choices of pastries and a market, pub, cafe open for breakfast! The owners were wonderful in communicating with us before the trip as well as providing a detailed listing of where to go (nearest and best beaches – thanks for that lovely suggestion!) where to eat along with telephone numbers to make reservations! Since we had five adults and five children, we had most of our meals at the house and drove to Arles for lunch (one of my most memorable day trips), Pont du Gard was a quick drive, too, and of course we spent an easy day at the beach. Beautiful home with modern decor, completely stocked kitchen (French press coffee – YAY!), pool, views and more. When you dream of staying in ‘that’ French country house with the shudders and the ivy…this is the special home of your dreams. Did I mention the petanque?”

“After a family South of France wedding we arrived at St Come elated but exhausted……..it was like arriving in our own (well for a week)piece of paradise. The house was nicer than I had expected – somewhat shabby chic, very comfortable beds and everything we needed in the kitchen, which was great as we ate in a lot, by choice. The weather was very hot and the pool was much used by children and adults, perfect size for a little swimming and playing. We ate all of our meals in the charming outdoor/indoor terrace. We had a great time would love to go back and properly explore this beautiful area.”

“I would recommend this beautiful property to anyone. We had a truly magical time and after 20 years of renting holiday properties, this was the closest to home from home we have ever stayed in. We didn’t want to leave after a fantastic week making the most of this wonderful region, canoeing, delicious local food and wine, beaches… All in all a perfect holiday was had by all and we can’t wait to go back!”

“We were celebrating our anniversary with our whole family of varying ages so wanted somewhere that was both large yet hospitable. We were certainly not disappointed with Mas de Mahystre. Large enough to cater for us all, cosy and friendly and clean. The swimming pool with the accompanying toys and large rubber rings provided lots of fun and laughter , especially for the adults ! The terrace in the evening provided the perfect setting for meals and drinks and watching the sunsets. The children adored the tree house and spent ages playing there. The surrounding villages are lovely and we were there for the annual local bull run, very interesting. For us , it was a totally perfect family holiday.”

“As a family with three generations including a four month and ten month baby and a two and a half year old child we needed a property with a relaxed atmosphere and the Mas de Mahystre really did provide that for us. The practical floors and decor meant we did not have to worry about the odd spill and the garden was private and safe for the children. The tree house was a great hit with the two and a half year old although grandad had to spend rather more time there than he had planned! For the adults the local markets and Cave Cooperative were great hits. There was also plenty to do without long journeys and the local villages (the three Cs) as we called them were very attractive. We did not eat out much as the cooking facilities were excellent and so was the lovely shady patio with the table. For anyone who has not been to the area before, Nimes, Uzes, Anduze and the Corniche de Cevennes and the Pont du Gard are all easily reached and the Carmargue and coast are not too much further. We love this area and it was great to find such a characterful property so well placed.”

We had a wonderful time at St Come. It’s a fantastic house in a beautiful place.  I thought I’d email to say how welcoming and comfortable and perfectly beautiful the house was. It honestly surpassed our expectations in every way, and felt warm and friendly and generous  i.e. lovely sheets and towels, great sun beds, comfortable beds, lots of space, books, games, the ice-making fridge…. the list is endless.

My personal best bit was walking down the stairs first thing in the morning and enjoying the stunning view from the hall windows. Joseph (two and a half) really appreciated all the garden toys and tree house, and seemed to live in the pool. The adults among us loved long, lazy evenings on the verandah.

You are so lucky to own the house, and we were lucky to choose it for our holiday…. and I hope one day we will all return for another holiday there.”

Just to say we had a lovely holiday in your beautiful home and i hope that we can go back sometime in the near future.”

We have had a wonderful stay in your house this week, you really have a beautiful home. The treehouse was a big success with the kids. We followed your tips of the surrounding and enjoyed it a lot.”

The Smits de Boer family, August 2012

“We enjoyed a really special week in Mas de Mahystre in June, our first holiday as a family of four and one we’ll remember forever. The beautiful house feels like a home away from home but much more peaceful and we settled in to the solitude within minutes! Spacious rooms and a big garden allowed our 2 year old to run around, swim in the pool (no fence but an alarm is fitted) and climb in the tree house. The field next door offered nature walks for her, often combined with our sundowners! The house was cool enough for our 6 month old to be comfortable despite the provencal sunshine and the gorgeous shady outdoor dining area allowed her to roll around in the dappled sunshine beneath the wisteria. The kitchen facilites and BBQ meant we could make the most of the local French produce then ramble around the garden playing boule while the kids slept. This would be a perfect base for exploring local vineyards, chateaux, historic towns and delicious French restaurants, but to be honest we just didn’t want to venture away from our little slice of heaven.”
